Nepal over coffee

I am sitting in a coffee shop in Seattle less than two months ago, enjoying an excellent cappuccino and the wonderful company of one of my Whitworth professors, Rob Wilson, his wife Carol, and his son Ryan. The conversation runs through various outdoor sports and adventures, landing on the topic of trekking in Nepal. Rob and Ryan discuss their interest in planning this trip as a part of their next excursion around the world. I chime in and the conversation continues and follows:
Lauren: "The sounds incredible! I want to come!"
Rob and Ryan: "You should join us."
Lauren: "...OK."

I leave for Nepal today and am about to embark on what should be the trekking experience of a life time!

I fly from Denver to London to New Delhi to Kathmandu, where I will meet up with Ryan and Rob. While in Nepal we will trek the Annapurna Circuit, which takes almost a month. This route circles the Annapurna and Lamjung Himals all of whose peaks are over 23,000 feet. The highest elevation we will reach will be 17,769 ft on the Thorung La pass. I really have no idea what to expect of this whole trip, but I can tell you this, I am thrilled about sending a month in the heart of God's creation. Breathing in deep (literally) His wonders and majesty. Not too mention being accompanied by good friends. I can't wait to tell you all about my time in Nepal when I return in November. I will be thinking of each of you (I believe I will have plenty of time to do this and ponder the mysteries of the world on our long hikes every day!) and will remember you in my prayers while I am away. If you think of it as well, please pray for our safety and our health (which I am a little nervous about), the water, different food, and just traveling in a foreign country in general can put a strain on the body.

A new exciting culture and adventure awaits me, and I look forward to all the ways that God is going to use this trip to, once again, add to the person he has created me to be.
Here are a couple pictures of my summer fun: climbing 14ers and rock climbing in beautiful Colorado.
